QI Rock Property Estimation
Our Motivation:
Elastic rock properties drive the subsurface seismic reflection response – their understanding is crucial for successful QI work, both in support of hydrocarbon exploration and for CCS or geo-technical applications.
Rock Physics models allow us to link geology with the rock’s elastic properties.

Our Methodology:
For each major lithology class, the elastic rock properties depend strongly on these fundamental controls:
Rock Composition – Provenance
Rock Texture – Depositional Environment
Rock Diagenesis – Burial Histories

Stephan knows how to establish elastic rock properties for sandstones, carbonates & shales as function of these fundamental controls, leveraging all available data sources, from the thin section to the basin model scale.

Project scope is scalable to the opportunity and can range from providing Vp, Vs, and Density expectation ranges from geologic references, e.g., for a data room visit, all the way to a comprehensive study that utilizes multiple wells, core data, and burial histories.
For example: for your target area, would you like to know how the seismic response of a pay sand would look like for a good quality reservoir rock at relevant burial depths and geologic ages? How different would it be from a wet sand response, and how would various failure scenarios look like on seismic – e.g., low saturation gas, non-reservoir lithology responses, micro-porous tight carbonates, etc.
Please reach out to us to discuss if this approach could help your project execution!
Determining these geologic controls allows then for the confident calibration of realistic rock physics models for all lithology classes.
